PeopleCount will help voters and politicians
who find it hard to work together to solve problems
create a political system that is constructive, unifying and democratic
where representatives and challengers serve all voters,
free from the influence of money and the parties.
There are serious problems today in every major aspect of politics. Polls tell us that sizable majorities of voters want many of these problems fixed and on some, even agree on solutions. Most of these problems have been worked on by organizations for decades with little progress. Yet Congress ignores them and most have gotten worse. Why?
They get worse because these problems are actually symptoms of a single underlying problem: Politicians are not accountable to voters. It's very hard to fix a symptom without fixing the underlying problem.
Accountability is most of the employee-manager relationship. The manager (voters) gives direction. The employee (politician) must report to the manager. The manager judges the employee regularly on the issues the manager chooses, rewarding with approval, punishing with disapproval.
Relationships consist of role-based communication. We simply don't have the communication channels needed for voters to collectively manage and politician to be managed.
But now, with the web, we can build these channels.
PeopleCount has designed a political communication platform that will reward this communication for both politicians and voters. Politicians will be free to serve voters instead of the parties.
This communication will be much richer than what is used today during campaigns or while in office. It'll be 3-way:
There are two main parts to the communication.
1. Voters will vote on issues and see the results. This will be similar to filling out a survey or voting except voters can revisit the questions and change answers at any time. Plus they can see the current results at any time. This informs both voters and politicians about what voters want.
2. Politicians will be able to submit reports on each issue. These will be written and as videos. Voters will grade them on how well they represent voters and see their average grades. This will reward politicians for serving voters.
Rather than each politician trying to find and reach voters, voters will easily find their politicians. Instead of each politician trying to get voters' attention on a few issues strategic to the politician, each voter will choose which issues are important.
Rather than politicians paying a lot of money for inefficient ads and outreach, even 3rd-party and independent candidates will be able to afford reporting on PeopleCount.
Using PeopleCount, both candidates and incumbents will have low cost, rich, targeted, 2-way communication with voters on the issues voters are interested in. Politicians will need much less money for campaigns, freeing them from serving the wealthy, and vastly reducing the power of money in politics.
Rather than politicians being beholden to a party for money and its blessing, politicians will be directly accountable to voters. Using PeopleCount, reporting to all voters, politicians will be much less partisan and divisive.
PeopleCount will solve or lessen other problems in politics as well. For those that require legislation, our newly-accountable Congress will be able to productively solve them.
PeopleCount also has a powerful strategy for growth using natural allies.

40 years ago, I completed applied math and computer science degrees at Stanford. My true passion was always in problem-solving, tackling hard, even impossible problems over months. In 2011 I realized I was resigned about politics and that made me part of the problem, part of the environment that allowed the problem to persist. So I gave up my resignation and looked at politics newly. After 8 months of research and conversations, I realized why it was so broken and how it could be fixed. Over the years I researched more, refined the solution, and created a growth plan that would work.
